1. Wave: best free invoice plan overall

Wave Starter costs $0 and lets you “Create unlimited estimates, invoices, bills, and bookkeeping records,” invoice on mobile and manage cash flow and customers in one dashboard. Optional online card payments list at 2.9% + $0.60 per credit card transaction (Amex 3.4% + $0.60).

Pro is $19 USD/month billed monthly or $190 USD/year billed annually, adding discounted payment rates (2.9% + $0 card), bank import, unlimited receipt capture and automated late payment reminders. 2. Zoho Invoice: best forever-free productized invoicing

Zoho Invoice’s pricing page leads with “$0 for” a “forever-free invoicing solution.” The FAQ says you can add up to two users, create a maximum of three projects and send up to 500 invoices per year, with “Powered by Zoho Invoice” branding. Features called out include tax-compliant invoices, recurring invoices, PDF/email delivery and multiple payment options.

Zoho Invoice fits freelancers who stay under 500 invoices a year and already live in Zoho. If you outgrow it, Zoho directs you to product experts rather than listing a public paid tier on this page.

3. Pocket Invoice: unlimited free invoices for field and freelance work

Pocket Invoice’s site (freedominvoice.com) brands a Free invoice maker and states “$0” under “Unlimited invoices. Really unlimited,” with no monthly invoice cap and no PDF watermark. The FAQ answers “Is Pocket Invoice free to use?” with “Yes. Create invoices online without signing up, or use Pocket Invoice on iOS and Android.”

It is a strong free option for trades and freelancers who mainly need PDFs, templates and multi-company invoices. Pocket Invoice submitted via our submit flow earlier this month; we still ranked it only after verifying the free claim on its own site today.

4. Invoice Ninja: best free plan when you have few clients

Invoice Ninja Free is $0, “Forever free,” with 5 Clients + Unlimited Invoicing, 11 templates, logo branding, online payments, recurring invoices, time tracking, expenses and a client portal. The FAQ confirms Free allows up to 5 clients with unlimited invoicing and that you are never forced to upgrade.

Ninja Pro is $14 per month billed monthly (annual billing saves the equivalent of 2 months). Enterprise starts at $18 per month billed monthly for 1–2 users. Pick Free while you stay at or under 5 clients.

5. Square Free: best free invoices if you already take Square payments

Square’s invoices pricing page says invoicing features are “included in any Square plan.” Square Free lists $0/mo. per location. Online invoice card fees list at 3.3% + 30¢ on Free (Plus and Premium show 2.9% + 30¢). ACH via invoice is 1%, $1 min on Free. Cash or check is Free on all listed plans.

Square Plus is $49/mo. per location and Premium $149/mo. per location. Choose Square Free when payments already run through Square and you want invoices without another monthly SaaS bill.
