A data roundup of Bing’s users, search ad revenue, Edge share, IndexNow and Copilot advertising, taken only from primary sources: Microsoft’s SEC filings, Microsoft’s own earnings call transcripts from FY2025 to Q1 FY2027, the Bing Webmaster Blog and the Microsoft Advertising blog.
Bing monthly active users reached 1 billion for the first time in the March 2026 quarter, and Microsoft’s search advertising line earned $15,176M in fiscal 2026, up from $13,878M a year earlier (Q3 FY2026 call, FY2026 10-K). Pick this page if you need Bing numbers with a filing or a Microsoft transcript behind each one. Skip it if you want Bing’s global query share: Microsoft does not publish one, and we don’t repeat third-party estimates. Bing matters more to marketers now than its share of classic search suggests, because Microsoft’s own AI answers in Copilot and Bing cite web pages, and Bing Webmaster Tools now reports how often they cite yours. If buyers ask AI assistants about your category, Bing visibility feeds straight into your AI visibility results. Every figure below has a verbatim quote in our ledger.

How many people use Bing?
Microsoft rarely gives a Bing user count. The one it has given recently came on the April 2026 earnings call, in the same sentence as an Edge milestone. Microsoft does not publish daily users, query volume or a global share figure for Bing, so any number you see for those comes from an outside panel, not from Microsoft.
- Bing monthly active users reached 1 billion for the first time in the March 2026 quarter (Q3 FY2026 call). Microsoft gave the figure alongside Edge’s 20th straight quarter of share gains.
- Bing and Edge have both taken share for five straight years (Q4 FY2026 call). Microsoft said this on its July 2026 call, at the close of fiscal 2026.
- Bing and Edge took share again in the September 2026 quarter (Q1 FY2027 call).
- Windows, Edge and Bing all gained share in the December 2025 quarter (Q2 FY2026 call), even though search ex-TAC growth came in slightly below plan that quarter.
- Bing ex-TAC revenue growth outpaced the search market in the September 2024 quarter (Q1 FY2025 call).
- Microsoft’s advertising ecosystem, which includes Bing, offers access to more than 1 billion consumers (Microsoft Advertising).
- Microsoft says its ad network reaches 221 million people who are not on Pinterest and 125 million who are not on Instagram (Microsoft Advertising).
- Microsoft’s internal data shows its audiences are 49% more likely to have high incomes and 20% more likely to make a purchase (Microsoft Advertising). Microsoft does not say which baseline it compares against.
How much revenue does Bing make?
Microsoft does not report Bing on its own. Bing sits inside a product line that the FY2026 10-K calls Search advertising (formerly Search and news advertising): Bing, Copilot, Microsoft News, Microsoft Edge and third-party affiliates. From fiscal 2027 that line widens again to Search and advertising, which adds LinkedIn Marketing Solutions and Premium Subscriptions. The annual table uses the older, narrower definition, which is the closest public proxy for Bing.
- Search advertising revenue was $15,176M in fiscal 2026 (the year to June 30, 2026), against $13,878M in fiscal 2025 and $12,306M in fiscal 2024 (FY2026 10-K).
- Search advertising revenue rose $1.3 billion, or 9%, in fiscal 2026 (FY2026 10-K).
- Search advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs grew 12% in fiscal 2026, on higher search volume and revenue per search (FY2026 10-K).
- Search and news advertising revenue was $12,125M in fiscal 2023 (FY2025 10-K), so the line has grown in each of the last three fiscal years.
- Search and news advertising revenue rose $1.6 billion, or 13%, in fiscal 2025 (FY2025 10-K).
- Search and news advertising ex-TAC grew 20% in fiscal 2025, on higher search volume and higher revenue per search (FY2025 10-K).
- Microsoft’s Search advertising line comprises Bing, Copilot, Microsoft News, Microsoft Edge and third-party affiliates (FY2026 10-K).
- Ex-TAC means search advertising revenue excluding the traffic acquisition costs paid to Bing Ads network publishers and content partners (FY2026 10-K).
| Fiscal year | Search ad revenue | Change (our calc) |
|---|---|---|
| FY2023 | $12,125M | n/a |
| FY2024 | $12,306M | +1.5% |
| FY2025 | $13,878M | +12.8% |
| FY2026 | $15,176M | +9.4% |
Source: Microsoft FY2025 10-K and FY2026 10-K, revenue by product line. FY2023 to FY2025 are reported as “Search and news advertising”; the FY2026 10-K renamed the line “Search advertising”. Year-on-year change is our calculation.
Bing search revenue by quarter
The 10-Q filings give the quarter and year-to-date figures. We derived the June and September quarters by subtracting year-to-date totals from the annual and half-year numbers, and labelled those as our calculation.
| Quarter (calendar) | Search ad revenue | vs year earlier |
|---|---|---|
| Jul-Sep 2025 | $3,697M (calc) | +14.6% (calc) |
| Oct-Dec 2025 | $3,812M | +7.1% (calc) |
| Jan-Mar 2026 | $3,808M | +8.7% (calc) |
| Apr-Jun 2026 | $3,859M (calc) | +7.5% (calc) |
Source: Microsoft 10-Q for the December 2025 quarter and the March 2026 quarter, and the FY2026 10-K. Jul-Sep and Apr-Jun 2026 values and all growth rates are our calculations from the filed figures.
- Search and news advertising revenue was $3,812M in the quarter to December 31, 2025, against $3,558M a year earlier (December 2025 10-Q).
- That line rose $254 million, or 7%, in the December 2025 quarter (December 2025 10-Q).
- Over the six months to December 31, 2025, revenue rose $726 million, or 11%, and ex-TAC grew 13% (December 2025 10-Q).
- Search advertising revenue was $3,808M in the quarter to March 31, 2026, against $3,504M a year earlier (March 2026 10-Q).
- Search advertising revenue rose $304 million, or 9%, in the March 2026 quarter, with ex-TAC growth of 12% (March 2026 10-Q).
- Over the nine months to March 31, 2026, search advertising revenue rose $1.0 billion, or 10%, and ex-TAC grew 13% (March 2026 10-Q).
- From fiscal 2027 Microsoft reports a wider Search and advertising line that adds LinkedIn Marketing Solutions and Premium Subscriptions to Bing, Edge, affiliates and MSN (September 2026 10-Q).
- Under the new definition, Search and advertising revenue was $6,554M in the September 2026 quarter, against $5,942M a year earlier (September 2026 10-Q). Because it includes LinkedIn, it cannot be compared with the older table above.
- Search and advertising revenue rose $612 million, or 10%, in the September 2026 quarter, and ex-TAC grew 12% on higher rate and volume across LinkedIn, Edge and Bing (September 2026 10-Q).
How fast is Bing search growing?
Microsoft’s preferred growth figure is search revenue ex-TAC, which strips out what it pays partners to carry Bing results and ads. It gives this figure every quarter on the earnings call, in reported terms and in constant currency.
| Quarter (calendar) | Search ex-TAC growth | Constant currency |
|---|---|---|
| Jul-Sep 2024 | 18% | 19% |
| Oct-Dec 2024 | 21% | 20% |

| Apr-Jun 2025 | 21% | 20% |
| Jul-Sep 2025 | 16% | 15% |
| Oct-Dec 2025 | 10% | 9% |

Source: Microsoft earnings call transcripts, FY2025 Q1 to FY2027 Q1, linked in the list below. From Jul-Sep 2026 the figure includes LinkedIn, and Microsoft did not give a constant-currency number in the quote we captured.
- Search and news advertising ex-TAC grew 18% (19% in constant currency) in the September 2024 quarter, ahead of expectations (Q1 FY2025 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 21% (20% in constant currency) in the December 2024 quarter, helped by usage from a third-party partnership (Q2 FY2025 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 21% (23% in constant currency) in the March 2025 quarter (Q3 FY2025 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 21% (20% in constant currency) in the June 2025 quarter, with roughly 8 points from third-party partnerships (Q4 FY2025 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 16% (15% in constant currency) in the September 2025 quarter (Q1 FY2026 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 10% (9% in constant currency) in the December 2025 quarter, slightly below expectations because of execution challenges (Q2 FY2026 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 12% (9% in constant currency) in the March 2026 quarter, on higher volume and revenue per search across Edge and Bing (Q3 FY2026 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 10% (9% in constant currency) in the June 2026 quarter, driven by higher revenue per search across Edge and Bing (Q4 FY2026 call).
- Ex-TAC grew 12% in the September 2026 quarter, ahead of expectations (Q1 FY2027 call).
- Microsoft guided December 2026 quarter search ex-TAC growth to the low double digits (Q1 FY2027 call).
How much share does Edge have?
Edge matters to Bing because it is Bing’s default browser on Windows, and Microsoft groups the two when it reports share gains.
- Edge passed 30% market share in the US on Windows, and had taken share for 15 consecutive quarters by the December 2024 quarter (Q2 FY2025 call).
- Edge had taken share for 18 consecutive quarters by the September 2025 quarter (Q1 FY2026 call).
- Edge had taken share for 20 consecutive quarters by the March 2026 quarter (Q3 FY2026 call).
How is Bing using AI?
- Copilot Search in Bing reimagines results with AI-curated overview pages and embedded conversational capabilities (Q3 FY2025 call).
- Bing overview pages now include embedded conversational capabilities (Q1 FY2026 call).
- Microsoft’s own image models power image generation in Bing (Q3 FY2026 call).
- Bing Webmaster Tools added an AI Performance report in February 2026 showing how publisher content is cited in Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and select partner integrations (Bing Webmaster Blog). It reports total citations, average cited pages, grounding queries and page-level citation counts.
Bing’s AI Performance report is the only first-party citation report any major AI assistant offers publishers today. It covers Microsoft’s surfaces only, though. To see whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Gemini cite you too, you need a cross-engine tracker: Mentionova covers six engines, and the ChatGPT rank tracking tools ranking compares the rest.
How big is IndexNow?
IndexNow is the open protocol Bing launched in late 2021 that lets a site ping search engines when a URL is added, changed or removed. Bing’s February 2026 AI Performance post asks publishers to use it so Copilot answers reference the current version of a page.
- Over 3.5 billion URLs a day are submitted through IndexNow (Bing Webmaster Blog, December 2024).
- 18% of all new URLs clicked in Bing’s web search results came through IndexNow (Bing Webmaster Blog, December 2024).
- In August 2022 more than 16 million websites were publishing over 1.2 billion URLs a day to IndexNow (Bing Webmaster Blog, August 2022).
- IndexNow accounted for 7% of new URLs clicked in web search results in August 2022 (Bing Webmaster Blog, August 2022). The share rose to 18% by December 2024.
| Bing-reported date | URLs per day via IndexNow | Share of new URLs clicked |
|---|---|---|
| August 2022 | 1.2 billion+ | 7% |
| December 2024 | 3.5 billion+ | 18% |

What to do with this data
- Treat Bing as AI infrastructure, not a second search engine. Bing Webmaster Tools now reports the grounding queries and citations behind Copilot answers, so Bing indexing and Copilot visibility are managed in the same place.
- Turn on IndexNow. It is free, most SEO plugins support it, and Bing ties fresh content directly to accurate AI answers.
- Check AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools monthly. Grounding queries show the phrases Copilot used to find you, which is a free list of prompts to track elsewhere.
- Track the other engines too. Bing’s report stops at Microsoft’s surfaces. Mentionova tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Reddit from $99/mo on annual billing, and our AI visibility tools and enterprise AI visibility tools rankings compare the alternatives.
- Budget for Microsoft Advertising separately. Copilot ad figures above are Microsoft’s own, so test them against your own conversion data before shifting spend.

How we compiled these statistics
We fetched 22 primary source pages on November 2, 2026 and recorded 62 data points in docs/content/stats-ledgers/bing-statistics.json. Every numbered figure above maps to a ledger row with a verbatim quote from the page we fetched. Financial figures come from documents Microsoft filed with the SEC and from Microsoft’s own earnings call transcripts. Usage and advertising figures come from the Bing Webmaster Blog and the Microsoft Advertising blog, and we give the measurement window wherever Microsoft stated one. We left out third-party share estimates, survey figures that Microsoft quotes from other firms and anything we could not trace to a Microsoft page. Values marked “our calc” are arithmetic on filed numbers.
