A data roundup of Google Search as a business, taken only from Alphabet’s SEC filings: the 2025 annual report, the Q2 2026 quarterly report and the Q2 2026 earnings release. We cover revenue, clicks, distribution costs, AI in Search, spending and the antitrust case.
Google Search & other brought in $63.3 billion in Q2 2026, up 17% from a year earlier, while paid clicks grew 13% (earnings release, 10-Q). That is faster than the 2025 full-year pace, when Search & other grew to $224.5 billion with paid clicks up 6%. Alphabet says its popular AI features are driving Search query growth, and in the same breath warns in its annual report that AI Overviews and AI Mode may monetize differently. For marketers, the useful reading is that Google Search is still growing, still sells clicks, and is now also an AI answer engine whose citations you can measure with an AI visibility tool. Every figure below has a verbatim quote in our ledger, and filings report most dollar figures in millions, which we note where it matters.
Key takeaways
- $63.3B of Google Search & other revenue in Q2 2026, up 17% year over year (earnings release)
- 13% growth in paid clicks in Q2 2026, with cost per click up 3% (10-Q)
- $224.5B of Search & other revenue in 2025, up from $198.1B in 2024 (10-K)
- More than 70% of Alphabet’s 2025 revenue came from online advertising (10-K)
- 950 million monthly active users in the Gemini app (earnings release)
- $44.9 billion of capital expenditures in Q2 2026, against $91.4 billion for all of 2025 (10-Q, 10-K)
- 19.8% TAC rate in Q2 2026, the share of ad revenue Google pays to distribution and network partners (10-Q)
How big is Alphabet, and where does Search fit?
Alphabet’s revenue is $402.8 billion for 2025, and Search & other is more than half of it ($224,532 million of $402,836 million). Cloud is the fastest-growing line. The numbers below are the frame for everything else on this page.
- Alphabet revenue rose 24% to $119.8 billion in Q2 2026 (earnings release).
- Q2 2026 was Alphabet’s 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth (earnings release).
- Google Services revenue grew 15% to $94.5 billion, led by 17% growth in Google Search & other (earnings release).
- Operating margin expanded by 2 percentage points to 34% in Q2 2026 (earnings release).
- Google Cloud revenue grew 82% to $24.8 billion in Q2 2026 (earnings release).
- Alphabet booked a $98.0 billion net gain in other income, mostly unrealized equity gains (earnings release). This gain is why Q2 net income jumped. It is not a search result.
- Total 2025 revenue was $402.8B, up from $350.0B in 2024 (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Alphabet generated more than 70% of total revenues from online advertising in 2025 (10-K).
- The United States was 48% of 2025 revenue and EMEA was 29% (10-K). Revenue is allocated by customer address.
- Google Cloud revenue was $58.7B in 2025, up from $43.2B (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Google subscriptions, platforms, and devices revenue was $48.0B in 2025 (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Google Network revenue was $29.8B in 2025, down from $30.4B (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Total Q2 revenue was $119.8B in Q2 2026 against $96.4B in Q2 2025 (earnings release). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Google Cloud revenue was $24.8B in Q2 2026 against $13.6B in Q2 2025 (earnings release). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
| Revenue line (millions of dollars) | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search & other | 198,084 | 224,532 |
| YouTube ads | 36,147 | 40,367 |
| Google Network | 30,359 | 29,792 |
| Google Cloud | 43,229 | 58,705 |
| Total revenues | 350,018 | 402,836 |

What it means. Search is the profit engine that pays for the AI build-out. The Q2 2026 net income figure looks huge, but it is inflated by a $98.0 billion net gain in other income, which the release attributes mainly to unrealized gains on equity securities. Do not read it as a Search result.
How fast is Google Search growing?
Search & other revenue grew faster in the first half of 2026 than it did in 2025. Alphabet credits more queries, more advertiser spending and better ad formats.
- Google Search & other revenue was $63.3B in Q2 2026, up from $54.2B a year earlier (earnings release). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Search & other revenue grew $9.1 billion in Q2 2026 and $18.8 billion in the first half (10-Q).
- Search & other revenue was $123.7B in the first six months of 2026 (10-Q). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Alphabet attributes Search growth to more search queries, driven by user adoption and mobile usage (10-Q).
- Full-year 2025 Search & other revenue was $224.5B, up from $198.1B in 2024 (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.

- Google advertising revenue was $294.7B in 2025, including YouTube ads and the Google Network (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- YouTube ads brought in $40.4B in 2025 (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Paid clicks on Google Search & other rose 13% in Q2 2026 and cost per click rose 3% (10-Q).
- For full-year 2025, paid clicks rose 6% and cost per click rose 7% (10-K).
- Google Network revenue fell $51 million in Q2 2026 on lower AdSense revenue (10-Q).

| Google Search & other, paid clicks and cost per click | Paid clicks | Cost per click |
|---|---|---|
| Full-year 2025 vs 2024 | +6% | +7% |
| Q2 2026 vs Q2 2025 | +13% | +3% |
Source: Alphabet 10-K for 2025 and 10-Q for Q2 2026, monetization metrics. Checked October 28, 2026.
What it means. In 2025, price (cost per click) grew a bit faster than volume. In Q2 2026, volume took over: clicks grew 13% while price rose 3%. That is the signature of more query volume, which Alphabet says its AI features are driving. It is also the strongest piece of evidence in these filings that AI answers have not (yet) reduced paid clicks. Organic click data is not in these filings, so they say nothing about publisher or SEO traffic. For that, see our Google AI Overviews statistics and Google AI Mode statistics.
What does Google pay to be the default?
Traffic acquisition costs (TAC) are the payments to partners that send queries to Google. The filings define the category but do not name partners or amounts per partner.
- Alphabet paid $16.2B in total TAC in Q2 2026, up from $14.7B (earnings release). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Total TAC was $59.9B in 2025, up from $54.9B in 2024 (10-K). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- The overall TAC rate fell from 20.6% to 19.8% in Q2 2026 (10-Q).
- The 2025 TAC rate fell from 20.7% to 20.3% (10-K).
- TAC goes to distribution partners such as browser providers, mobile carriers and device makers (10-Q).
What it means. TAC grew in dollars but fell as a share of ad revenue, which Alphabet attributes to revenue shifting from the Google Network to Search & other. The Search & other TAC rate itself was substantially consistent. Search distribution deals are also the subject of the antitrust remedy described below, which restricts how Google distributes its services.
What do the filings say about AI in Search?
Alphabet’s own numbers on AI are product-wide, not Search-specific. The filings do not give an AI Overviews or AI Mode user count, so be wary of any stat that does and cites Alphabet.
- The Gemini app has 950 million monthly active users (earnings release).
- Gemini models process 22 billion API tokens per minute (earnings release).
- Alphabet says its popular AI features are driving Search query growth (earnings release).
- Nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise (earnings release).
- All 15 of Alphabet’s half-billion-user products use Gemini models (10-K).
- Seven of those products have two billion users (10-K).
- Alphabet describes AI Overviews and AI Mode as the way Search handles natural-language and multi-step questions (10-K).
- Alphabet warns AI in Search may monetize differently and affect growth and margins (10-K).
- Alphabet warns that consumers may change how they obtain information online (10-K).
- Alphabet expects user engagement with AI products to keep benefiting its business (10-K).
What it means. Two statements matter for search marketers. One is that Alphabet expects AI engagement to keep benefiting revenue. The other is that it warns users may change how they get information online, and that AI in Search may monetize differently. Both can be true. If your buyers now ask Google, ChatGPT or Gemini first, the job is to know which sources those answers cite. That is what Mentionova tracks across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google AI.
How much is Alphabet spending to support it?
The investment numbers are the largest in these filings and they are rising quickly.
- Capital expenditures were $91.4 billion in 2025 (10-K).
- Capital expenditures were $44.9 billion in Q2 2026 alone (10-Q).
- Cash spent on property and equipment was $80.6B in the first six months of 2026, against $39.6B a year earlier (10-Q). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Operating cash flow was $164.7 billion in 2025 (10-K).
- Operating cash flow was $39.1 billion in Q2 2026 (10-Q).
- Alphabet raised $49.6 billion in net proceeds from an equity offering in June 2026 for AI infrastructure (earnings release).
- Alphabet had 190,820 employees at the end of 2025 (10-K).
- Alphabet had 198,933 employees at June 30, 2026 (10-Q).
- Google Services operating income was $39.5B in Q2 2026, up from $33.1B (earnings release). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
- Alphabet-level costs, mostly shared AI research and development, were $5.8B in Q2 2026 (earnings release). Filing figures are in millions of dollars.
What it means. Half-year spending on property and equipment doubled from $39.6 billion to $80.6 billion. Alphabet raised $49.6 billion in equity in June 2026 to fund AI infrastructure. Whatever Search does next, it will do on this footprint.
What is happening in the Search antitrust case?
The legal section of the filings is short but important for anyone building on Google distribution.
- A US court ruled against Google in the Search case in August 2024 and entered a final judgment in December 2025 (10-Q).
- Google appealed the Search judgment in January 2026, and the DOJ and states cross-appealed in February 2026 (10-Q).
- The court denied Google’s motion to stay as premature, allowing a later stay request (10-Q).
- Alphabet says the DOJ ad tech remedy proposal includes structural remedies that could materially harm its business (10-Q).
- The 2025 10-K lists antitrust suits covering the operation and distribution of Google Search (10-K).
What it means. The judgment restricts how Google distributes its services and requires it to share certain search data and offer syndication services to certain competitors. Appeals are pending, so the final shape of the remedies is not settled. We report only what the filings say and take no view on the merits.
What to do with this data
- Plan for both clicks and citations. Paid clicks grew 13% in Q2 2026, so classic Search still sells. But Alphabet also says AI Overviews and AI Mode handle more complex queries. Measure both channels.
- Track whether Google AI cites you. Mentionova tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Google AI and Reddit, and lists the Reddit threads those engines cite. It is #1 in our best AI visibility tools and LLM brand monitoring tools roundups. See also our best AI SEO agents.
- Fix the technical floor. Crawlability, canonicals and Core Web Vitals still gate everything. Our technical SEO statistics page has the 2025 web-wide baseline.
- Check Reddit’s role. Reddit says AI engines cite it often, which makes its threads a source worth watching. See our Reddit statistics.
- Do not treat query growth as organic traffic growth. These filings measure paid clicks and revenue. They do not report organic clicks to publishers. Use your own analytics, and see our SEO statistics page.
- Keep up with the Gemini side. Our Gemini statistics page covers the model and app.

Does Alphabet report AI Overviews or AI Mode users?
Not in the filings we fetched. The 10-K describes AI Overviews and AI Mode, and the Q2 2026 release gives 950 million monthly active users for the Gemini app. It does not give a user count for either Search feature.
How many people use Gemini?
The Gemini app has 950 million monthly active users, according to the Q2 2026 release. Alphabet also says Gemini models process 22 billion API tokens per minute and that nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise.
How much does Google pay for default search placement?
The filings do not give a per-partner figure. They report total TAC of $16.2 billion for Q2 2026 and about $59.9 billion for 2025, which covers payments to distribution partners and Google Network partners.
What is TAC?
Traffic acquisition costs are amounts paid to distribution partners that make search access points available, such as browser providers, mobile carriers, device makers and software developers, plus payments to Google Network partners. The overall TAC rate was 19.8% in Q2 2026.
How much is Google spending on AI?
Capital expenditures were $91.4 billion in 2025 and $44.9 billion in Q2 2026 alone. Alphabet describes these as primarily investments in technical infrastructure.
Is Google Search being broken up?
The filings do not say that. They describe a final judgment entered in December 2025 that restricts how Google distributes its services and requires it to share certain search data with competitors. Google appealed in January 2026, and the DOJ and states appealed in February 2026.
Will AI Overviews reduce Google’s search revenue?
Alphabet does not say that. It says AI in Search may monetize differently and could affect revenue growth rates and margins, and that it expects AI engagement to continue to benefit its business. Q2 2026 results show paid clicks and revenue both growing.
Why are these numbers from filings instead of third-party traffic estimates?
Third-party estimates of search share and query volume are second-hand and often outdated, so we left them out. Filings are Alphabet’s own statements to regulators, with defined metrics and a date.
How we compiled these statistics
We fetched 3 primary source pages on October 28, 2026 and recorded 56 data points in docs/content/stats-ledgers/google-search-statistics.json. Every numbered figure above maps to a ledger row with a verbatim quote from the page we fetched. All figures come from documents Alphabet filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission: the 2025 Form 10-K, the Q2 2026 Form 10-Q and the Q2 2026 earnings release (Exhibit 99.1). We did not use traffic estimators or third-party research. Filings report most dollar amounts in millions, so billions in our headlines are rounded from those figures and we show the raw figures in tables. Alphabet’s Q3 2026 results were not available when we fetched, so the latest quarter here is Q2 2026. We did not compute any growth rates ourselves.
