How much does Linear cost per user?

Linear costs $10 per user per month on Basic and $16 per user per month on Business when billed yearly. That works out to $120 and $192 per user per year. Linear bills for every unsuspended user in the workspace, in any role. The Free plan costs nothing regardless of team size.

Linear also offers monthly billing, according to its billing documentation. The pricing page only shows yearly rates, so check the monthly figure at checkout before you budget. Enterprise is sold on yearly billing only.

Billing mechanics differ by cycle. On monthly billing, a user added mid-month is not charged until the next month, and a removed user earns no credit. On yearly billing, Linear charges pro-rated amounts for added users and issues pro-rated credits for suspended ones. Those credits apply to future invoices; Linear does not refund them.

What does each Linear plan include?

Linear’s plans differ mainly in team count, issue limits, access control and reporting. Free caps you at 2 teams and 250 issues. Basic removes the issue cap and allows 5 teams. Business unlocks unlimited teams, private teams, guests and analytics. Enterprise adds identity management, procurement terms and dedicated support.

Free

Linear Free includes unlimited members, 2 teams and 250 issues, with file uploads capped at 10 MB. All users are admins on the Free plan, according to Linear’s billing docs. The 250-issue cap is the real limit on an active project.

Basic

Linear Basic costs $10 per user per month billed yearly. It adds 5 teams, unlimited issues, unlimited file uploads and admin roles. Basic is the plan for a single engineering group that does not need private teams or outside guests.

Business

Linear Business costs $16 per user per month billed yearly. It adds unlimited teams, private teams and guest accounts, Triage Intelligence, Linear Insights, Linear Asks, and Zendesk and Intercom integrations. Linear Asks covers Slack intake, which matters once support or sales file bugs.

Enterprise

Linear Enterprise is priced on request and billed yearly only. It adds SAML and SCIM, invoice or purchase-order billing, granular admin controls, advanced org modeling, migration and onboarding support, priority support and account management. Google single sign-on is listed on every plan; SAML is Enterprise-only.

How much does Linear cost for a whole team?

A 5-person team pays $600 per year on Linear Basic. A 20-person team pays $3,840 per year on Linear Business. A 50-person team pays $9,600 per year on Business. All figures use Linear’s yearly list prices before tax.

tools8020 calculation from Linear’s yearly list prices on October 3, 2026. Excludes tax and AI credits.

The upgrade from Basic to Business costs $72 per user per year. For a 20-person team, that is $1,440 per year for private teams, guests and Insights. If you bring in contractors or need a private security team, that premium is easy to justify. If you don’t, Basic covers the core issue tracker.

Is Linear’s free plan enough?

Linear’s free plan is enough to evaluate the product, but not to run a team long term. It allows unlimited members, yet caps the workspace at 250 issues and 2 teams. A small team logging bugs, features and chores will usually pass 250 issues within months.

Downgrading is forgiving. Linear says that when you cancel a paid subscription, nothing is deleted. If the workspace holds more than 250 issues, you just can’t create new ones. All members also become admins again, as on any Free workspace.

What hidden costs come with Linear?

Linear’s main extra cost is AI credits for coding sessions and Loops, which are billed by usage. Other costs to check are billing for every unsuspended user, no refunds on mid-term cancellations, and the Salesforce integration, which Linear lists as an add-on.

  • AI credits. Linear’s pricing page says coding sessions and Loops require AI credits. Coding sessions bill model tokens at provider rates with no markup, plus $0.25 per 20-minute sandbox block. Typical Loop runs cost $0.07 to $0.20, per Linear’s AI credits docs.
  • Credit rules. Minimum top-ups are $10, or $50 with automatic reload. Credits expire 12 months after purchase and are non-refundable. Other Linear AI features are included in your plan.
  • Every user counts. Linear charges for all unsuspended users in any role, so suspend departed teammates promptly.
  • No mid-term refunds. Linear does not refund mid-subscription cancellations. It recommends starting monthly if you are unsure about a year.
  • Salesforce. The Salesforce integration is listed as an add-on, with no public price.

Does Linear offer discounts?

Yes. Linear gives eligible nonprofits 75% off Basic and Business. Full-time students get free access for one year for student-led programs, and qualifying university staff get 75% off. Startups affiliated with a Linear partner can get up to 6 months of the Business plan free, according to Linear’s billing docs.

Yearly billing may also be a discount, though Linear does not publish the monthly rate on its pricing page. The nonprofit discount does not apply to Enterprise.

What happened to Linear’s Standard and Plus plans?

Linear retired its legacy Standard and Plus plans. Workspaces move to a current plan at their next renewal after February 1, 2026. Standard moves to Basic by default, and Plus moves to Business, according to Linear’s plan-change notice.

The default move can remove features. Standard workspaces moving to Basic lose triage responsibility, private teams, guest accounts and support integrations. Plus workspaces moving to Business lose SAML, Advanced Asks and third-party app approvals. Linear says pricing changes “for most customers,” so check the comparison in your billing settings.

How does Linear pricing compare to Jira, Asana and Trello?

Linear costs more per user than Jira Standard and Trello, and slightly less than Asana Starter. Jira lists Standard at $7.91 per user per month. Trello Standard is $5 per user per month billed annually. Asana Starter is $10.99 per user per month billed yearly. Linear Basic sits at $10. One tier up, Linear Business ($16) costs more than Jira Premium ($14.54) and Trello Premium ($10 billed annually).

Which Linear plan should you choose?

Choose Free to test Linear on one project. Choose Basic once you pass 250 issues or need more than 2 teams. Choose Business when you need private teams, guest accounts, Insights or support-tool intake. Choose Enterprise only when security reviews require SAML, SCIM or invoice billing.

The 80/20 call for a startup engineering team is Basic on yearly billing at $10 per user per month. It removes the only limit that hurts, the 250-issue cap, for $120 per user per year. Business is worth its $72 per user per year when contractors or support teams need scoped access.

If you are on a non-engineering team, Linear is probably the wrong tool at any price. Our Linear review, our list of Linear alternatives and the project management tools we rank name better fits.
